Exciting Updates from Devils Lake: Open Water Season Kickoff and Fishing Report!

May 21, 2024

We are very excited to announce we kicked off our open water season this past weekend, May 17th! Just to give an update on Devils Lake at this time the main lake itself is very slow with water temps still in the low 50s the fish are holding up in the shallower parts of the lake. The shallows and smaller bays at this time are in the lower 60s; we found some parts that even hit 63 degrees. The walleyes, pike, and white bass are holding in around that 3 to 6 foot of water. The walleyes haven’t been very aggressive throwing crank baits produced a few eyes when we switched to slip bobbers and leeches is when we had our best luck for walleyes. The pike and white bass at this point are very aggressive and the numbers have been very high. We found the bass in 4 ft of water right up in the weeds. A blue and white or yellow and white shallow running number 5 rapala worked amazingly and made for a lot of fun! The lake itself is down from last year and will continue to drop as the summer moves on which in turn will be making the shallows a little more tricky then normal and even will start to bring some more of those flooded trees out of the water or very close to the surface. i highly suggest that if you have not fished the lake before it would be best to hire us to take you around for a couple days to give you a little feel for the lake or just leave all your stuff home and leave the work to us while you have a great trip on the water! Please keep an eye out on our website and facebook page for more of these handy tips as summer moves on. we can’t wait to see you all out on the water this summer!
