🎣 Devils Lake Fishing Report – Week of May 30, 2025 🌬️

The shallow bays of Devils Lake are warming up, with water temperatures reaching the mid-60s°F. The water is becoming slightly stained, creating ideal conditions for active fishing.

🎯 Hot Bites:

White Bass: White bass are schooling aggressively in shallow waters, especially in areas with a slight stain. Anglers are experiencing fast action using jigs tipped with minnows.

Northern Pike: Pike activity is high, with anglers catching them in large numbers. These fish are prevalent in shallow, stained waters and are responding well to various presentations.

Walleye: Walleye fishing has improved with the warming temperatures. Leeches and soft plastics are effective, particularly in shallow areas with some water stain. However, clear water conditions can make them more cautious, so targeting areas with slight turbidity can increase success.

🎣 Tactics & Tips:

  • White Bass: Use jigs tipped with minnows in shallow, stained areas.
  • Northern Pike: Target shallow bays with soft plastics or crankbaits.
  • Walleye: Focus on early morning or late evening hours, using leeches or soft plastics near weed edges or transition zones.

🌤️ Weather Outlook:

The past week has seen mild temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to low 70s°F, with some wind contributing to the slight water stain. These conditions are expected to continue, maintaining favorable fishing environments.

Devils Lake Weekly Fishing Report May 12–18, 2025

Week of May 12–18, 2025

🐟 Walleye

Walleye fishing was steady but variable throughout the week. Early in the week, warmer temperatures led to good activity in shallow bays and along rocky shorelines. Anglers trolling crankbaits or casting jigs tipped with minnows reported decent catches, particularly during the morning and evening hours. Midweek saw a slowdown, likely due to a cold front moving in, which made the bite more finicky. Slower presentations and staying mobile helped locate active fish.

🐠 White Bass

The white bass bite was hot this week, especially in warmer, shallow backwaters. Anglers casting small swimbaits, spinners, or even simple twister tails had nonstop action when they found a school. Many of the bass were staging or spawning, making them aggressive and easy to target. This is one of the best weeks of the year to chase white bass on Devils Lake.

🐊 Northern Pike

Northern pike were extremely active, offering fast action across a wide range of locations. Shallow weed edges and flooded cattail areas held good numbers of fish. Spinnerbaits, spoons, and larger crankbaits all produced. Some anglers reported catching more pike than they could handle while targeting walleye. These fish were feeding heavily ahead of the cooler weather pattern.

🌦️ Weather Summary

This week brought dramatic changes. Monday started with unseasonably high temperatures, reaching into the low 90s, creating ideal conditions for shallow-water fishing. However, by mid to late week, a strong cold front moved in, dropping daytime highs into the 40s and bringing wind, cloud cover, and scattered showers. Water temps dipped slightly, and fish activity adjusted accordingly.

🔍 Tips for the Coming Days

  • Walleye: Focus on windblown points and shallow flats in the afternoon as water warms. Use jigs and live bait or slow-trolled crankbaits.
  • White Bass: Keep searching shallow bays—look for birds or surface activity to locate schools.
  • Pike: Try flashy lures in weedy or flooded areas, and be ready for hard strikes.

Hot, Windy, and Heating Up Fast!

It’s been hot and windy out on the lake! With temperatures climbing, the smaller back bays and northern sections of the lake have warmed up quickly. Over the past few days, we’ve had strong winds from all directions, making conditions a bit unpredictable. As a result, many fish are starting to slide into slightly deeper water. The water is very clear, so targeting areas with a little color or murkiness can make a big difference. Weed growth is accelerating rapidly, especially in the back bays. Due to a low-snow winter, much of the vegetation stayed alive, which means these areas may become harder to fish earlier than usual this season. Productive depths have been in the 4- to 9-foot range. White twister tails and other soft plastics are producing well, and the live bait bite is also starting to pick up. Bridges continue to hold plenty of fish, so they remain a solid option. The pike bite is gaining momentum too, with lots of 23- to 27-inch fish being caught in the small bays. Keep an eye out for the white bass spawn—it should be kicking off soon, especially along weed lines and in stained water. We have one weekend in May available still if you are interested in getting in on a guided trip this month, May 22-24 is open. Here’s to tight lines🎣

It’s That Time Again!

The ice is gone, the water is warming up, and the docks are in. K&M have their brand-new Tri-Toon on the water and ready for action! Here’s what’s happening right now on Devils Lake, North Dakota: The spawn is in full swing! Both walleye and northern pike are currently laying eggs in rocky areas, which makes those spots your best bet for some exciting fishing over the next week or so. With the weather shaping up beautifully this weekend—and looking great in the weeks to come—we expect fish to move into the shallow waters. That means excellent opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. 🎣 Fun Fact: Did you know that Northern Pike is the state fish of North Dakota? Their coloration helps them blend in with underwater vegetation, so if you’re targeting pike, focus on weed lines and pockets—that’s where they like to hide. As for walleye, their spawn is triggered by daylight and water temperature. This year, the walleye numbers are looking really strong! So keep an eye on the water temperature and stay aware of weather conditions for the best chance at a good catch. Now is a perfect time to get out on the lake and enjoy an early summer fishing fix. Whether you’re chasing pike, walleye, or just soaking in the sun—Devils Lake is the place to be with K&M Bison Lodge & Outfitter.

Hot Fishing Action: Early Starts and Great Catches!

The fishing has been on fire, and so has the heat! We hit the water between 6:30 and 7:00 AM, and we’ve had the first fish in the boat within 10-20 minutes of reaching our first spot. The mornings have been beautiful, but the heat comes on quickly. There have been a few windy days and passing storms, but nothing has stopped the fish from biting. We’ve consistently hit our limits of walleye and have been off the water by 11:45 AM or 1:00 PM, sometimes even sooner if the fish are particularly cooperative. 😂😀We’ve had a lot of laughs over the past few days, with friendly competitions about who would catch the first fish and who would end up the wettest by the end of the day. We’ve also had the pleasure of hosting some first-time fishermen and kids who had never fished or been on a boat before this past week. Creating those memories is always special. We wrapped up our days by beating the heat and the winds with a relaxing fish fry for dinner. Yesterday’s catch was perfect for the fish fry! 🎣Due to a schedule change, we have some dates available at the end of July and August. Give us a call, and we can help you plan a fun, relaxing fishing trip where you can catch some great fish. 🎣

Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Adventure in North Dakota: Rain, Snow, and Successful Catches!

Memorial day weekend in North Dakota was one for the books! Not only did it rain it also snowed! The start of the weekend was a little interesting. The weather turned nice Sunday but it had changed up our go to shallow spots with all the wind. The 3 to 6 ft shallow bays had turned very dirty and the fish had moved out. We found the weather had forced the fish out to the 10 to 15 ft depths and they started to hang around the structure. Once you found the fish they were very active! the water was clear enough the boat would scare them out if you came in with your big motor they would come back around after 10 minutes. slip bobber and small jigs with leeches is what worked best for us producing nice walleyes and some pike mixed in with them. The shallow water was stirred up from the wind so we didn’t see much bass this weekend but the walleyes made up for that! Devils Lake North Dakota will always throw something fun at you any given day of the year! So keep and eye out on the weather and keep checking the fishing reports!
